There are also situations where petroleum-based products are not safe to use.  During my husband’s time on hospice care, there were days he required supplemental oxygen. Like many caregivers, my instinct was to reach for the Vaseline to keep his lips comfortable. A hospice nurse gently stopped me and explained that petroleum-based products should not be used when oxygen is in use due to an increased fire risk.  It was a moment I will never forget—and one that completely changed how I think about everyday personal care products.
